Zipline Course: Professionally Engineered
Safety Guidelines
Every cable and bridge is inspected each day before any tours go out. Extensive course inspections are required and completed weekly and monthly by Buffalo Mountain Ziplines. An annual course inspection is completed by Universal Zipline Technology.
All pieces of equipment are inspected before and after each use to ensure that our visitors’ safety is not compromised.
All participants, including guides, wear safety equipment provided by Buffalo Mountain Ziplines. Absolutely no personal equipment is allowed on the courses. Visitors are connected to the cables with safety lines at all times while on the zip line course, including skybridges and platforms. Each visitor is connected to the cables at a minimum of two points while riding the zip lines, with safety lines, carabiners and pulleys.
Participant Requirements
Minimum age is 3 years of age. All minors ages 3-15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian*. Guardian can be a relative, teacher, scout leader, etc.
Guests with current or re-occurring medical conditions that may interfere with the participant’s safety should not take this tour. For guests with special needs, please call or text 540-200-5234 to discuss accommodations. We’ll do our best to assist, as long as safety is not compromised.
*Relatives other than the parents or legal guardians cannot sign the waiver for a minor by law. The links for online waiver forms can be shared and completed in advance by the parent or legal guardian as needed. If the parent or legal guardian is not bringing the minor(s), a copy of the photo ID for the parent/legal guardian completing the waiver must be shown at check-in (photo on smartphone is acceptable). What to Expect for Young Children
At Buffalo Mountain Ziplines, we understand that young children have unique needs when it comes to adventure. Our course is designed to be fun, engaging, and safe for even our youngest guests. The experience begins with our gentle “Bunny Hop” cable to ease them into the excitement of ziplining. Our trained guides are there to support and encourage each child, including tandem rides when needed to ensure comfort and safety.
We recommend that parents explain the experience to their children in a calm, matter-of-fact way to help build confidence and excitement. Our guides use a variety of techniques to help little ones feel at ease, including allowing them to try the demonstration line outside the office before the tour starts. For the first few lines, it’s best for one parent or familiar adult to zip ahead of the child and the other to follow behind, so the child is always on the platform with someone they know and trust.
To maintain a safe and smooth experience, only guides may provide ziplining instruction during orientation and on the course. Parents who interfere with guide direction or otherwise disrupt the tour may be asked to leave the course with their child(ren).
Guests under 75 lbs will likely need to ride tandem with a trained guide on the longest line due to the need for sufficient weight to maintain momentum across the cable. Tandem rides with other guests are not allowed for safety reasons. If a child is close to 75 lbs, can follow directions and performs well on the first four lines, and has the strength to pull themselves in if needed, they may be permitted to ride solo—weather (wind) and course conditions permitting.
Cancellation Policy
If we cancel your tour due to inclement weather or an internal issue that prevents us from providing a tour, we will provide a full refund.
We have a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel outside of 48 hours from your tour time, you will be refunded or receive a voucher for the amount you paid. A $5 fee per person will be deducted for refunds.
If you cancel within 48 hours of your tour time there are no refunds or vouchers. Late arrivals will not be refunded or issued vouchers and will not be able to join the group.
Those above the safe course limit of 275 pounds will not be refunded or receive a voucher. Space is limited, guests are being turned away for your tour, and expenses have already been incurred in preparation for your tour.
Weather Policy
Mountain weather can be unpredictable, particularly during the Spring and Fall, but we still do tours with light to moderate rain, cold temperatures, non-accumulating snow, or moderate winds. Please dress appropriately.
We reserve the right to postpone (or pause) a tour up to one hour to wait out inclement weather – this includes heavy fog for the earliest morning tours and afternoon thunderstorms that pop up and pass through during the summer – and then start/resume the zipline tour.
Management reserves the right to cancel tours due to unsafe weather conditions, such as heavy winds, heavy rain, accumulating snow, and sustained thunderstorms. If the tour is canceled by management due to weather before the tour starts, a full refund or option to reschedule will be provided.
If you are on tour, and management decides to cancel the tour, your entire group will be evacuated in a safely manner and escorted to the office. Depending on how far you made it through the course, we can reschedule or partially refund you.
Dog Runner Line Requirements
Buffalo Mountain Ziplines has dog runner lines with leads that your dog can be clipped onto. The runner lines can only accommodate three dogs at a time. The runner lines are set back along the treeline but can be in direct sunlight in the afternoon. A water bowl can be provided. A dog tether agreement/waiver must be signed and reservations made in advance. Reservations can be made by selecting the option during the online booking process. Please allow an extra 10 minutes to check your dog(s) in, so we ask that you arrive 40 minutes prior to tour start time.
Your dog must meet the following conditions.
1. Have current rabies vaccination.
2. Weighs 125 lbs or less.
3. Collar fits correctly so that dog cannot slip out of its collar.
4. Can tolerate being tethered.
5. Friendly with people and other dogs and has no history of biting.
6. No separation anxiety. Dogs that are pulling agressively on the line or wrapping the lead around the post will need to be removed.
Buffalo Mountain Ziplines reserves the right to not allow your dog to be tethered or to continue to be tethered for
any reason. If your dog needs to be removed from the runner line, someone in your party will need to stay with the dog even if it means leaving the tour.
